tire pressure vs ride

Hi,

I don't have a good understanding of tire pressure vs ride.

I have been using what is on the inside of the driver's door.

i.e. 65 lbs front and 80 rear.

Should both front tires be inflated to the same number if they have different loads?

Driver's front is 2007 lbs, Passenger's is 1720 lbs.

Does ride improve as pressure is lowered?

Should the rear duals all be inflated to the same pressure?

Driver's rear is 5534 lbs, Passenger's is 5181

  • Hi,

It looks as if I may do 77 lbs in the rear but could do just 45 lbs at the front.

I've weighed off front, rear, and each tire individually when the waste tanks, gas tank, fresh water tank, generator (and tank) were all full. Food, and clothing were all in place.
  • Should both front tires be inflated to the same number if they have different loads? Tires on the same axle should be inflated to the pressure required by the largest load

    Driver's front is 2007 lbs, Passenger's is 1720 lbs.

Does ride improve as pressure is lowered? Yes it will to a certain extent but you should never go below the pressure required to support the load

Should the rear duals all be inflated to the same pressure?Same answer here. The duals should be inflated to the pressure required to support the max load and both duals should be the same pressure

    Driver's rear is 5534 lbs, Passenger's is 5181
  • Until you have your coach weighed, it's safest to run max sidewall pressure. Running that high, the rig will ride like a Flintstone car. You'll feel every bridge expansion joint.

After having the coach weighed, you can go to the manufacturers web site and look up the pressure for your weight and tires. There will be a table for singles and duals. Try to get a 4 corner weight. If you can only get axle weights, divide by 2 and add 5%.

The biggest danger is under pressure. Running them at max sidewall is rough but safe.
  • In My Opinion...
Both front should be inflated the same
All four rear inflated the same
Yes, the lower the pressure, the smoother the ride, However, too low will result in unstable ride and increased heat buildup thus increased
    chance of tire failure.

I do run mine 20lbs under the max when NOT loaded
PS: I was thru Regina last summer on an Alaska trip.
  • I wood look op a tyer pressure chart for your tires, and set the to fronts for what is called for at 2000lb and rears for 2250lb or slightly more as Dulles are usealy rated slightly less than singles.
    Frank.
