Buy a bigger generator. :p From your description it sounds like your 3100 is performing exactly as it should so if you insist on running heavier loads a larger genset with greater capacity is the obvious answer. ;)
A friend of mine put one of these on his fiver recently and loves it. Apparently it works as advertised for starting a 15000 BTU A/C from a small genny.
