Transfer switch
What problems would I have if I ran shore power through transfer switch Where I camp I would like to pull in the opposite way this puts power cord on wrong side and end would like to use generator plug if it would work

- The genset would have been hardwired to the transfer switch if properly installed. You do not want to back feed into the genset. If you want to connect in the front, you would have to add another transfer switch to protect the genset.
- emblethen Didn't say anything about genset cord I said plug I would use same cord that I use for back plug. It would be eaisier to buy exten. cord like ancon said and probably a lot cheaper than install second connection and lot less work, Thanks for all answers Larry

- Your post makes perfect since to me. Yes, you can do this, I have done it in the past. This will allow you to connect shore power at a connection at the front of the unit. The transfer switch does not know if the power is from a generator or shore power, and it doesn't care.

Do not use the genset wiring. If you want to add a second shore power connection to the opposit side, you would connect second shore power cord to the same location in the transfer switch as the current shore power cord. - not really 50 amp cords are not cheap and not easy to store the one I have will reach fine if doing that will not damage the transfer switch. if I cant do that then ill buy an extension cord.
- Wouldn't it be easier to get an extension cord if you are too far from the power pedestal.
- dougrainer what does not make sense. I want to run shore power through transfer switch. Will it do damage to do that smketther It has transfer switch. I did not say cord I said plug it has transfer switch. Harvard not running anything from gen. I want run from shore power Every one re-read post
- Just guessing, but I assume the OP wants to have the Normally Closed contacts run to the GEN and the Normally Open contacts run to SHORE POWER.
I cannot see any particular advantage in the strategy but who am I to say! :) - Yes you can add a transfer switch to use a second cord to plug in.
Although you say generator cord?? It may already have a transfer switch... just plug it into the pedestal. Or is it hardwired where adding the transfer switch would be required?
