No, I have not tried a FTDI Collection Cable, but as it is a TTL to USB converter, and assuming you have the necessary USB driver, it should work. Keep in mind that you are likely to have to change the pinout on the molex connector to match the TriMetric.
I'm currently using a MAX232 TTL to RS232 board and then a serial to USB adaptor... That FTDI cable sure would be a lot less cumbersome.
