I think the odor may be caused by people not using the RV single ply toilet paper. A lot of people are using just regular septic safe paper. That may cause your tanks to smell like a septic tank. Maybe using the RV toilet paper would eliminate the septic smell and give your tanks that new RV arouma. :)

Orotable toilets in the desert that have no detectable odor. I gotta get the name of that company or the chemical they use. This is an unbelievable advance in poo odor elimination.

Tank chemicals will not address the problem the O/P sites,, IN fact they basically do nothing worthwile in most cases (IN a few cases, such as when it will be a month between dumps, BIOLOGICAL additives may help, Waste Digesters for example).

What gives one the stinky camper effect is a combination of two things.. One is required by law in some areas.

Las Vegas (I assume all of Clark County, NV) has a rule that the sewer hose (AKA Stinky Slinky) has to be in a smooth slope from RV to hole in the ground (Sewer Inlet) no dips.

Such a dip, if deep enough, would form a water trap and prevent sewer gas from backing up into the tank and out the roof vent.

SO will closing the dump valve

So a smooth slope, Such as I have just now with my SLUNKY, and an open valve (Did that by accident exactly once, in this very park) and you got the Stink-o-matic

Close the valve and the stink vanishes.

I dumped about a quart of water down each of the floor drains (2) and .. it vanished,, Same exact problem, the water in the traps had evaporated.

I agree with the OP, it is just cheap! There are plenty of products available that don't hurt anything.

I was at a campground where the guy behind us in a back-in spot used a tote that he was dumping in. We were down wind and boy I can tell you wow....pungent.

I will be staying Ft. Despot this summer long enough that I know I will outstay my black tank so I will be using a tote as well. I use chemicals and the smell is still pungent but maybe not as bad. Those folks that do not use chemicals but lots of water may be on to something.

We are also in a park with their own waste water treatment system. Chemical are not allowed. Most of these type of parks will be out in the country and NOT on a city water system. We personally just use lots of water and no chemicals. I hate the smell of the chemicals and we do not have odor problems if everything is in working condition as it should be. We also never leave a mess at a dump station. Maybe you are smelling the accumulated stuff in the dump station holding tank while the lid is open ??? That stuff sitting in there smells much worse than what is being dumped.

Not to me, it changes the odor, doesn't stop anything. I would rather smell plan old scat than smell the chemicals.
