Trouble shooting suggestions-Thetford Toilet/water pump

If anyone has some trouble shooting suggestions, I would appreciate it. Today I used the water pump for the toilet and with pedal in closed position, water was dribbling in and water pump was cycling...

Thanks to all. I can see my Sunday to-do project. Will clean the gasket,
spray with silicone and will get the toilet chemical joelc recommended.
The water alarm is a great idea, too. Thanks, all.
