Thanks all. I am printing out some answers and taking them down to my dealer.
Here is the unit I have.
It works fine on shore power but hooking it to a different genset is an excellent idea. I will haul my Honda down there next week.
In all fairness to my dealer they are also doing several more projects on it for me and I told them they could keep it till Spring. In my OP it didn't turn out the way I was thinking!!!
They said today that the local genset pro came by last week and set up the genset to the proper hz. They kicked on the microwave and the genset sped up and the MW did not draw from the battery. But it only happened once. Thinking the inverter may be bad itself. My dealer has set up several RV's with this system previously with no problems.
