I have a small Rockwood Roo TT with a slide out bed.The slide out motor housing is attached to the exterior wall (made of particle board) with 4 short lag screws.When bringing in the bed recently, the motor came detached from the wall. The only damage was having to put a wire nut back onto the line going to the motor.Any thoughts on how to reinforce and reattach this bracket better? The previous holes are completely stripped. If I use machine bolts, you would see them from the outside of the trailer.

Could you fill the holes with a piece of wood and glue or epoxy? I have done it on smaller holes with tooth picks.

I have considered doing that, but I'm afraid it wont hold with all that torque. Maybe it will, it held fine for 5 years with just particle board.

Through bolt it. use large washers as re-enforcing backing or even a piece of plywood as a mounting plate.You will have no luck with the existing particle board as a solid, lasting mounting base.

The more I look at the housing, the more it looks like I will have to though bolt it. With the bed extended out It appears that the housing also helps keep the bed level.I guess I could paint the washers, nut and bolt, white so it would be less noticeable from outside.Why would they fasten it this way at the manufacturer?

Of course all those structural repairs need to be made.

However I still think you need to check into if there are stops on the actuator. if it does not hit a stop and ratchets or quits pulling, something has gotta give.

At least that was the way it was on mine.

Glue as large a piece of plywood as you can to the particle boad, and attach to that. This spreads the load I would use "T" nuts and bolts to attach to the plywood.

We had problems with ours and I was able to put on an outboard bearing that took some of the stress off the mounting bolts. If you can do something like that it will help.

I don't know the details of that unit but wonder it the bracket could have a plate attached to spread the torgue over a wider area. Filling in the holes with glue and sawdust (mentioned earlier) would help too.

Is that mechanism one that ratchets when it gets to the end of its travel?

If so i had a problem with the fifth wheel bed slide in that it ripped the actuator mounting bracket from the floor.

Turned out that the stop was not set even near right at the factory and the actuator was exerting way too much force when pulling in or out before the ratcheting clutch activated.

Reset the stops and rebuilt the messed up mount and all has been well.
