Well, just did another camping trip up-Island (Rathtrevor) and sure enough started getting those Fs on the Norcold.
Couple years ago I got that and fixed it by clean-up etc. Lately been getting a roaring flame but no Fs till this time. So with this recent thread in mind, got in there and cleaned it out some more.
Best it could do was get rid of those Fs, but the flame was kind of spurting pulsing, which you could see and hear. Took out the burner and there it was!
The slots had gone--rusted right out. Just a big hole. Took the orifice sprayer part out and it was ok.
Off to the nearest RV shop and they wanted $75 for a new one, to come in next day. Went to another place where they are noted to be good for this kind of thing (Access RV in Errington) and they had one for $67. Yipes! That's a lot for a few slots! Bought it, and installed--no roaring, kind of quiet, nice flame-- all perfect!
Note--the part package says do not take out the orifice sprayer part that comes with the burner, so you don't break "the seal."
So I guess my past repairs that involved taking out the sprayer were a big no-no. Oh well, still alive, but now $67 plus tax, short. So it seems every ten years you have to cough up another $67 (plus tax) :)
