upgrading power converter
My power converter has apparently bit the dust, lights flickering for past couple of years now no charge to batteries... Anyhoo, we do a lot of dry camping, where we need to daily boost the batteries...

I agree. The output size wire should be matched in size and not run a long ways IMO. My replacement converter came with wires already connected.

I have two GP 27 RV batteries. Would replacing them with two golf cart 6V be much of an improvement?
It will be when your two 27 DC batteries go to their grave and you replace them with real deep cycle 6 volt batteries. But if your 2 group 27's are still good, you are starting out with about 200 amp hours there.
Run them until they wont hold a charge, and then go with the 2 six volt GC 2 Costco or Sam's Club batteries to replace.
