RJsfishing system works, for him. It doesn't have to work for you. Guaranteed, an RJ post is like 16.0V level of charge on your LA open cell battery, it's gonna stir things up good and proper and bring things to a roiling boil in a technical battery charge thread. Only thing is, from Mex's postings in Battery 490, that's a once a month proposition only.
In the mean time, RJ's having a good time getting more than a chemical reaction out of most of us here.
I've met him in person, he's a good guy, full of practical knowledge, sans a hydrometer. It works for him, he's happy, and he's not sweating it right now, matter of fact, probably quite comfortable.
I can say for a fact, in my career, I've loved rubbing elbows with engineers. Mainly because most of them have forgotten more cr8p and formulas in a life time than I'll ever remember, and because they are gracious enough to put up with my ball busting financial and cost accounting bean counter questions. Perspectives at opposite ends of the table, at times, which allows us to meet in the middle somewhere. Being a financial cop isn't always fun with someone else's money, but being frugal with my own is a whole another story.
Specific gravity per cell, despite being a hassle, never lies, if your battery allows it. It's down and dirty, the chemistry involved makes it impossible to be deceived. It's amazing, the beating a next door neighbor cell takes next to it's dying brother. So many, many times, I've seen the specific gravity of a neighboring cell jacked up, while next door, it's dropping through the floor. a few years at Sears Roebucks worth of observations. Another observation... high probability of an end cell being the first to die and kick the bucket. Why?
