An antimonial battery regularly brought to 16.0 volts is going to shed positive plate material like a Malamute would shed fur in Phoenix on the 4th of July. It is pure and simple abuse. It has to be pointed out. Most of the readers of this forum intuitively know that. But there are a lot of lurkers out there - I never forget that.
A flooded battery that needs equalization more often than once per month is either dying, being over-discharged, or left in a discharged state an excessive amount of time or a real candidate of "Damn! I should have bought the other brand".
This is where THICK PLATES, a large sediment chamber, and electrolyte surplus capacity pays dividends. What CURES a sulfated true deep cycle battery will DESTROY a pretender.
There are millions of permutations in use possible and maintenance scenarios of a lead acid battery. The trick is to separate legitimate information from "Sticking In A Dollar, Pulling The Handle And Getting Three Bars Lined Up".
