Vent-free propane heaters at high elevation

When the heaters run low on oxygen they don't burn as efficiently, which causes CO output to be greater than usual. Not cracking a window open for ventilation will do this, so it stands to reason that the thinner air at high elevation will have a similar effect. Be careful.

We have an Empire and it's been used at 9,000' and does well. We love it - such a warm steady heat unlike the furnace. Have used one for 16 years.

my Mr Heater at 8600 ft works fine

I used a Blue Flame 10,000 BTU heater at 6900+' that I guess didn't burn the gas thoroughly and it made my eyes water. A following trip, same elevation with a Wave,3 it burned clean but didn't put out the heat I expected. Not enough oxygen??? The Blue Flame works great in the toy hauler down here in the desert, (1300'). I now have a Mr. Buddy Heater for the next 7000' trip. Our Son has one and it worked well at that altitude. If that doesn't work for me I guess I'll be in the market for some good wool long johns...........
