Upgrading to a Vent-Free Propane Heater

Heating our 30' MH quickly uses up our 17 gallon propane tank. We're going to install a 20,000 BTU Vent-Free Propane Heater because of the inefficiency of RV furnaces in terms of propane use and battery power consumption,

Some common brands are Kozy World, Empire Comfort Systems, ProCom, and Mr. Heater.

Does anyone have an idea which of these brands are most reliable and are of the best quality.

  • It may not be an upgrade. At least we didn't find it to be. We had an older coleman and a new buddy. Too much fumes in the air and messed our sinus up. Windows were cracked but it may just be us. I was on the same track about the furnace but after working through the whole thing I love my furnace. Seems like they would have mounted 2 20 pound tanks minimum. If boondocking it does get into a whole new game as far as batteries.

The Cat Platinum model vents through pvc and draws about 2 amps so it may be an option too.
  • For the best quality and ones that are designed for what you want to do, look at the Olympian models. They come as wall mount units.

As stated elsewhere I do not like ventless propane heaters. If the O2 sensor on them (Assuming they have one) fails.. You may just not wake up in the morning.

I have read of far too many folks who did just that.
  • we use the middle size Olympian Wave 8 cat heater, 8000 BTU
it spends most of the winter on low or Med, very seldom on high
    we are in southern Calif
