Wall Thermostat for Electric Heater Install? Relook?

We have this little fake electric stove with ceramic heater mounted on the bottom. I seem to never get the heat dial set to my liking. So i got an idea (that is dangerous) about wiring in a battery powered wall thermostat to regulate the ceramic heating element with.

So i ripped it apart today and it looks to me like all the juice needed to power the heater goes thru that dial regulator. Seems to me that the circuitry in a battery operated wall thermostat would not carry that load.

Am i right? If so how can i do this? It sure would be handy.

thanx

  • Thanks LS.

I can just plug that baby into the wall and no mods to the stove heater. Dymonite as my grand pappy used to say. :W

I am now happier than a pig in you know what.

  • Starting to feel like I am going in circles here.

I been spending time looking at the specs on the digital in line thermostats on ebay and amazon. Seems to me that I can't come up with an affordable one that has s high enough capacity for the 120V heater.

What do you folks think. Maybe I am not savvy enough on this capacity issue.

    thanx
  • Thanks folks, I just did not think of the electric baseboard thermostat.

Just checked on Amazon and they are available and digital. :C

    Done Deal
  • You are correct. A millivolt stat will let all of it's smoke out if you try to run that kind of current through it.
You could use a stat for base board heaters.

I would not go with a battery operated T-Stat

Google "120 volt thermostats" or "in line thermostats"

I have two. One is a "Dongle" it is a plug/outlet assembly with a cord and on the other end is a thermostat. Rated 15 amps it runs one of my space heaters where the T-Stat (electronic) got Fried by a power surge.

The other one I have is a Wall mount.. NOTE the connections are made BEHIND THE WALL.. But it's mounted on the back of a fireplace like yours..

    About 30 bucks each

Took me a try or two to get all the right wires in all the right places on the Mini=Fireplace.
  • put a thermometer where you want the comfort most and turn the heat up or down till you get the reading you want on the thermometer
  • do a search for "electric baseboard thermostat" you can wire one up to your heater, wires up just like a switch would to the power plug
  • newman, I am slow today, would you expand on your statement some?

    thanx
  • been alot easier to get a thermometer set the temp to your liking using it to read the temp
