Water dripping from heater pressure relief valve

I just noticed this last night. I gave the handle one light tug and it stopped. But in general how big a pblm might it be and how much risk do I run if I don't fix it till after my current trip ends in ten days or so?

  • I solved my "drip" by exercising the valve repeatedly. I also open the valve each time I drained the HWH to help get the eater out faster.

Sometime you have to push the venter of the valve lever to get it seated well.

  • Some seepage is ok. At least you know it works. The alternative could be serious.
  • Ours has "seeped" for 8 years now, without getting any worse.

Our owners manual states that a slight amount of seepage is normal.

You might want to check yours.
  • I wonder if it might help to drain the water heater completely, then refill it. That way, the air pocket on top will get rebuilt, which should minimize the amount of water coming from the relief valve.
  • Work it a few times to reseal it, should be alright. I wouldn't worry about it now.
  • I owned my last Lance TC for 9 years and it always dripped. I only needed to turn the heater on for a while each morning and evening though so I never worried about it.
  • No problem at all. it will "gradually" get worse, but there is NO hurry to change it. Also, it is a common item available at any hardware store, NOT RV specific. Just pull it so you know which model you have, there are 3 or 4 different ones and go to your local store to get a replacement. I was in the same boat and went a year before I changed mine.
  • It shouldn't be a problem. If it was dripping and you stopped the drip, it may have just been dirt or corrosion on the seal.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. If it makes you feel better, get the new valve and take it with you. Then if it is a problem you have the replacement.

Mine dripped a couple years ago. I just opened the valve (after bleeding the pressure) and closed it after running a little water out of the valve. No problem since clearing the valve.

    Enjoy your trip.
