Water filter you change filter material

I have a water filter (was given to me as a gift) Has a cart. that you unscrew a cap off the bottom and change the stuff in side the cart. Its 24" long and I don"t know what the name is or the stuff you put in side. It looks like a good rig, and the person who gave it to me is no loner here. The filter materal has a yellow color to it. Anyone out there have oe of these or know the name of it would help me.

    Check RV water filter store.

It explains about different filter materials, disposable, reusable etc. They have everything, you name it - they have it, see menu on the left.

Or stop by Home Depot and see if there is anything that fits in your rig.

IS the "Material" a cartarage or loose?

Cartarage.. Bag it, Then Bag the bag (This is classed as Haz Mat (Hazardous Materials so double bag) and take to someplace such as Camping world to see if you can match.

NOTE: there are filters for specific uses. Such as filtering iron out of the water, Others are "General purpose"

If it is loose. odds are it's been exposed to very rusty water and what you are looking at (yellowish color) is in fact Rust

My filters.. I will describe my home made filter re-fill

Dump everything into a bag as noted above

Fill with a handful of FILTER FLOSS (this is a white fiber stuff sold in FISH isle at Wal-Mart.. Live fish, as in pet fish that is)

Then a bottle of activated charcoal.> The plain stuff, not the anti-algae stuff, Same isle

    More Floss

    And re-assemble

I really like my filter. Full design on request.
  • OH, darn, it was 7.50 a lb, not 750. -- error on my part. Think I'll use two 10" charcoal filters.

Bob 212, that's the materal, its a PENTEK 20" filter, Amazon sell a 1 lb bag for $750, not sure how much I need.

how much you need = how much the full cart weighs, more-less.

Buy in Canada if this is easier $27 per lb.

Or don't buy. Ask those Mom and Pop for a bucket of charcoal. KDF is rarely used on is own. It's usually mixed with activated carbon. Carbon is doing most of filtration, while KDF helps preventing mold growth in storage.
  • Bob 212, that's the materal, its a PENTEK 20" filter, Amazon sell a 1 lb bag for $750, not sure how much I need. Camping up in Cape Briton NS, Can. Campground is a kind of Mom & Pop place, the water has a lot of sulfur in it and smells like rotten eggs. KDF 85 removes Sulfur, Iron, Bacteria and Hvy. metals. I am taking three (shower taking) teenagers with me, have to avoid all the complain. I could use two 10" filters also. Thanks for your help. Rob Mac.
  • If this is the media you need it might be cheaper and easier to switch to readily available 10" cartridge system.

  • Hate to use the std response but how about some photos of housing and material?
