Tank threads and anode rod threads are NPT (National Pipe Threads) which means they are TAPERED.
Tank drain hole threads are wide at opening and get narrow farther in
Anode rod threads are narrow at rod and get wider at head end
When you screw anode rod in the threads get tighter and tighter due to taper
Install finger tight then snug up.....1/4 to 1/2 turn (depends on how finger tight you get plug)
If you check/tighten the hold down bolts for roof top A/C Unit they are just 'snug' 1/4 turn after finger tight
If you need to use a torque wrench......40 INCH pounds (INCH---not Foot)
