With two seemingly unrelated issues I would start at the batteries with a voltmeter and preventative maintenance on the terminals, connectors, and grounds. A low voltage could effect both items. Take voltage measurements first and write them down. Take pictures of the wiring so you don't forget how they go back on when you change batteries some day.
