What size is the water heater plug? I use the plastic type and need to replace it due to breaking the head of during winterizing. I can get the rest out but I am heading to lowes tonight and thought I would pick up a couple more. I used it for to long and should have replaced it a couple years ago. Thanks,Will
If it is Attwood the drain plug is 1/2" pipe size.
I believe the OEM drain plug is actually Nylon material, I would highly doubt you are going to find a Nylon plug at the home stores. In fact you are going to have a difficult time even finding a plastic plug.. I never have any luck with Home centers finding these obscure parts.
You might find a brass plug but good luck at finding 1/2" pipe thread, the last time I needed 1/2" pipe thread plug I had to buy a 1/4" plug then a 1/4" to 1/2" adapter. I am not a fan of brass plugs in the Attwood, aluminum is pretty soft and using a brass plug takes to risk of damaging the threads if something goes wrong.
I would suggest stopping at your local RV parts dealer and getting the correct plug there. If you can wait buy a set from Amazon..
Replacement Attwood Drain PlugsI am puzzled on how folks are damaging the plugs, My Attwood is 8 years old and still using the OEM drain plug..
You do not need to wrench these in hard, only tight enough to not drip in use. I use a socket/ratchet (can't remember the socket size since I winterized a month ago) with an extension on mine..
