water pump controller problem

I have an Intellitec 15 amp water pump controller that does appear to work. with 3 momentary switches that can turn the pump on from different locations and off from a different location, the pump will remain on approximately 2 seconds and then goes off. For some reason the controller is not maintaining power to the pump. The solenoid is opening. I have a service manual from Intellitec with a schematic of this controller, but I am not sure I understand what happens when the momentary switches are pushed to turn the pump on.
Any comment on the operation of this system would be greatly appreciated before I jump in and buy a new controller from Intellitec. thanks very much for any help.
  • The momentary switch(es) complete circuit to ground.......then controller supplies power to pump via a relay......pump pressure switch turns pump off then controller relay opens to remove power to pump (relay opening is delayed to prevent breaking pump current).
  • Have you tried powering the pump directly from 12 volt power source? It's possible your problem isn't the monoplex controller.
  • Does the on/off indicator light stay on?

The pump quits running when max static water pressure is reached.
  • thank you to all who have replied. you have been an eye opener even though I was looking at a schematic. many thanks again.

    Not exactly.
The Intellitech control IS the relay. The wall switches are momentary. When the Intellitec control "sees" that momentary ground signal it closes the latch relay inside the controller and then the ground is completed to the water pump. The water pump already has 12 volt positive all the time. So, once this happens the pump has ground and positive until you turn the Intellitec OFF. The pump will operate once the inside pressure drops and the pump pressure switch closes. Once the water spigots are OFF and the pressure switch is satisfied, the pump will turn OFF until you open another faucet. Doug
