water pump issue

This past weekend I ran into a problem with my water pump. Out of the blue while running the water the pump would start making a banging noise like power was being applied, cut, applied, cut, etc. This would not happen the entire time the water was running and only part of the time and more times than not towards the end of water use (flushing toilet, washing hands, etc.).

When packing up I could hear the pump kick on for a few seconds and then shut off when nobody was using the water. This I know is a leak in the line or real simple a faucet left on. I looked at all my faucets and found that the outdoor shower was leaking air. This was the part of the hose that screws into the faucet housing. When I wiggled it I could hear air flow.

So my question is, could the problem I described with my pump be a result of the outside shower having issues or do I have two problems to fix?
  • If that faucet hasn't been used, the air would never get out. But that wouldn't cause a problem, in fact it would act as an accumulator tank.
  • Air coming out of outside shower hose.......that means there is still air in plumbing system (it's a water system not an air system) so all the air has not be purged form plumbing lines AND your shower hose gasket is worn out or hose is not tight cause wiggling it should not allow anything out.
  • Did you ever check the pump inlet strainer as advised before? JM2¢...
  • I would try to fix the air problem first to see if the other goes away.
