Water pump issue

Back a month or go we ran the fresh water tank dry. Ever since that time I have have issues with the water pump loosing its prime. Today while winter I've it took for ever to get it pumping the antifreeze, but it did eventually start pumping.
What should I look for in the water pump?
I foregot to brand and model but will do that tomorrow when I go back to the storeage building. It's only in its second season.
  • I wonder if it sucked up some dirt into the filter. Does your pump have a filter? You may need to take it apart and clean it.
If you have air in the system you may need to open a tap for it to prime.
  • First thing tomorrow I ll check the filter. I didn't have a tap open so I'll try that too. Thanks.
  • I leave some water in the tank when winterizing which enables the pump to pick up the pink stuff quickly. Once the pink stuff is pumped thru the system the FW tank can be emptied as well as the Water Heater tank.
  • RV water pumps have a hard time priming if there is no place downstream to expel air in system

Always open a faucet when first filling plumbing system via pump
And let pump run until it primes and is pumping water.
They are designed to run dry w/o damage
  • Well I am pretty much convinced that blowing out the lines first ( foregot to mention that) plus not having a faucet open is the cause of my problem. Been doing this for 11 years and never ran into this issue before.
Thanks for all of the input.
