Water Pump Question

I have an Aquajet 55-AES water pump. Occasionally, when connected to city water, the fresh water will fill up. It must be back feeding through the pump. I assume there must be a check valve. I have been unable to find a diagram showing where it is. Has anyone had one of these apart or know where I can find a diagram? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
  • The check valve in the pump may be sticking. Sometimes, using the fresh tank, running the pump for a while, will fix the issue. If not, an in-line check valve can be added, or the pump cleaned/replaced.

  • This same thing started to happen to my RV this last summer. What I do is after turning the water pump off I open a faucet to relieve the water pressure in the system, then hook up the city water. This works, however this isn't the way it is supposed to work. As mentioned here there must be a valve that sticks open in the system and relieving the pressure let's it close.. I have in the past, when I first got the RV, made the mistake of hooking up the city water with the pump power on. I don't know if this did anything but there is a sticker near the switch that warns against doing this. This is our first RV and missed this step in the excitement of setting up.
  • Replace the pump. The check valve IN the pump is defective. If the pump is accesable, you could install a manual ON /OFF valve on the input side of the pump to stop the problem. Adding a check valve on the input side of the pump probably will NOT work. The reason is, I doubt the suction pressure of the pump can overcome a check valve spring enough to either open or allow enough fresh water thru. Doug
  • I had same problem on same pump twice. They do not sell the check valve. I replaced pump. Added a check valve to bad one. Use as a spare.
  • We seldom hookup to city water but one time that I did, it did fill the tank and partially flood the site. For a quick and inexpensive fix I installed a check valve on the pressure side of the pump, not the suction side. It works great but it does reduce the pump's flow. This is really only noticeable when flushing the toilet and using the filtered water for cooking. We have one of those deck mounted upside down J faucets for filtered water in the kitchen.

Flojet does sell rebuild kits for some of their pumps, maybe all, but I have had other pressures(pun intended) to worry about.
  • Will call the company tomorrow and see what they have to say. Thanks for the input.
