Water Softener Flow Rate

Question

I just received my 'On The Go' standard water softening device, and did the preliminary steps, which was to hook it up to a source and let the water run for 3 to 5 minutes.

To my surprise, there wasn't a noticeable restriction to the water flow, and it came out pretty fast with the hose turned on full.

My question is; does it rally do a good job at that flow rate? I'm wondering this because my next trip will be to a place without water hook ups, and will be filling my water tank. I'm sure the flow is much less when you just hook it up to the city water, and get a flow only when you turn on a faucet.

Should I turn the water on to a slow trickle or something when filling my RV's water tank?

Also, I drained the unit to save weight for travel, so I'm wondering if I need to do the start-up couple of minutes again before using the water.

When it is hooked up to your rig and on city water and you are filling a large pot, filling the sink, taking a shower.........flow will be as much as can flow thru canister.

It works with full flow. Don't have to limit it or use it/let it stand/use it etc.

The resin reacts with the calcium/magnesium in the water instantaneously.

Have an On-The_go AND operated huge water treatment facility.

Draining for travel/storage.
Pick up a double female garden hose connector because the resins can get packed when canister is empty.
Hook up a hose to water supply then to canister 'outlet' with connector so you can backflush/fluff the resins....full flow for couple minutes.
Then place it in service.

The backflush should be done every 3 months of use and whenever you have drained it to fluff resins bed. Gets rid of channeling and compacted resins. Just couple minutes will do.

So if drained..backflush couple minutes then place it in service.

If just removed from service but not drained....just do the service flush for a couple minutes prior to placing back in service.
