Water tank check valve

Hi all,
I stopped getting hot water and I checked the check valve and it's so corroded I can't get it off.
I sprayed some WD-40 on it but I'm afraid if I apply too much pressure I'm going to break the check valve right off the tank. Wish i could attach a picture of it.
Any suggestions on how I can get it off?

  • PB Blast will loosening it, I have used it for years on all sorts of things and it has never failed me yet.
  • WD40 is a water-displacer (WD) with surface corrosion inhibitors. It's not really a penetrating oil. My preference is PB Blaster. Spray on and let it soak. Periodically tap with a hammer to break things free. Might take a day or two and several applications if it is really bad.
  • Need to use a Liquid wrench to loosen the corrosion. WD 40 may help, but I doubt it.
If the plastic style, it may break anyway causing you to use large easy out.
  • Letting WD40 soak overnight and then a blow dryer to heat the connection has worked for me in the past.
