Well what about wear rather than safety. Will a mild steel shank wear faster than chrome-moly? After 10K miles of rough roads even my (chrome-moly?) Equal-I-Zer shank is showing wear and a sloppier fit in the receiver as a result. Would a mild steel shank be worse? If so, I wouldn't want it.
And I would like the receiver to be built of better steel as well.
