"Weather stations" don't link to anything. They show current conditions where you are. No warnings, nada. They don't warn you that a line of tornados or heavy snowfall is heading your way etc.
A weather radio gives you voice forecasts, local and wide-area, and alerts for most anything you could think of. You just need to be in range. To me a weather radio is a necessity.

This is the radio I have. It has a connector for an external antenna. If you have an FM radio antenna on the roof you can get a y-connector and connect this to it along with your FM radio.
