I have used the "remove the battery" fix several times with cell phones and other electronic items. It seems that not everything is wiped clean unless ALL power is removed.
I have also learned to remove the battery from my laptop if it won't be used for a few weeks. If I leave the battery in the laptop, it will be discharged the next time I boot up. But if I take it out, it will still be nearly fully charged the next time I put it back in the laptop. I can only conclude that the laptop still draws some small amount of power after being shut down.
