I think your batteries needed charging as well.. Indicators and such on RV type fridge are 12 volt devices,, Everything "RV" style in an RV needs 12 volts for something even the toilet and it does not even have electrical connections (12 volts for the water pump which is elsewhere in the system).
This includes the Fridge, Furnace, Water heater, and many Air conditioners. lights, fans, I already mentioned the plumbing, all use 12 volts for control and detection.
TV, Microwave and such.. These are common household devices and run on (normally) 120 volts only though the FRONT TV in many motor homes has a 12 volt (Chassis system) interlock and you can get 12 volt direct power TV's as well (At home you use a brick, Mine is actually a 14 volt TV, In need to get a direct wire plug for it).
