WFCO converter for lithium batteries

Someone might happen along who has done that. But I wouldn't hold my breath. I wouldn't spend a dime to save a WFCO converter. I would replace it with a better unit.

Actually a knowledgeable friend of mine who has built their own rig that is all electric and solar/lithium powered says based on my rig’s electricity needs a conversion to lithium is a waste of money.

I have a brand new WRCO converter in my garage that I will giver anyone that wants to pay the postage. I installed a Progressive Dynamics unit and my installed DC volt meter shows the converter working properly by switching between the different charge rates. The WFCO just sat at 13.2 volts even when the batteries were run down. The TT was 3 months old when I did the upgrade.

Bob it sounds like you have a faulty WFCO that should have had a warranty claim made - mine 3 stage charges the wet batteries.

I have 2 other rigs with PD power centres that are good units. They are 90 amp (I think) anyway they will make a Honda 2000 throttle up when they bulk charge flat batteries

So basically it just skips the float mode of 13.2 volts.
I see no description on how long the 14.6 volts is held.

WFCO is not the best choice in converters for starters.
From what I have been led to believe Progressive Dynamics now has a Lithium version of at least one converter.. BUT it may be brand of battery specific.

Also "lithium" is half a battery.. the other half determines the specific charger needs. Li__ or Li___ and how you fill in the blank matters.

Are newer WFCOs still junk? The one in my 2018 Coachmen seems to do fine. I leave it plugged in all summer and not only does it keep it charged, it has yet to boil the battery.

The "junk" rep is partly due to an anecdotal higher failure rate of its components compared with other brands. I have no statistics on that to confirm if true.

The other big reason is the design. The 13.2v trigger to go into boost mode is unsuitable for RV use, where that 13.2v trigger would seldom occur.

There have also been complaints on here that some do not drop to the 13.2v storage mode after being at 13.6v. No info on whether this is a component failure example or if it is to do with the design/RV installation in those cases.

On balance, if you have a choice, why risk it?

A WFCO? That's like using a boat anchor to fix a fine watch. Oh wait, I forgot, they aren't heavy enough to be a boat anchor. Trash that thing.
