What does tire date code '5317' mean?

I was browsing some Class C's for sale and they posted a photo of the tire with this date.

HUH?

The 53 is because December 31, 2017 was on a Sunday, therefore entering a 53rd week. Code numbers for the month range from 01-53 for that reason.

You just made that up??? :B

No. Actually Pope Gregory XIII introduced the calendar in the 1500s. I wasn't born until the 1950s.

He was one smart Pontiff, figuring out tire date codes back then. :B

"Date codes differ from mfg to mfg but the info above could be correct."

Beg to differ, sir. A portion of the DOT required alpha-numeric string can
be used by the tire manufacturer for his unique coding, however the last 4 digits must, by DOT rules for every tire requiring DOT marking sold in the USA, indicate week and year tire was manufactured.

  • Guess it means manufactured in the "53rd" week of 2017. Wonder what country it was made in? :h
