It can't :)... A close estimate of SOC you will get by simply measuring unloaded voltage first thing in the morning.
There is battery loss, and there is Peukert, though I recall a long and technical letter from Trimetric where they explained that Peukert can't and shouldn't be considered for correct measuring of SOC.
Like Roy said, you only need a monitor when off-grid. But... These toys exist and people are using them. Trimetric and Victron, I believe, are the only two now. Check the prices, and whether all the bits like shunt etc are included, a while ago Victron was cheaper. Looks nicer too. And soon-to-come Rogue, have no idea of the cost, they will probably try and beat Trimetric and Victron in either price or features.
