What size hole on hitch
What is the size of the hitch pin hole on a class III hitch? I tried a 5/8 but the pin doesn't fit, it's just a hair bigger that the 5/8 hole

It is not a bolt that is tightened, it is a pin that is loose and takes side loads. With a hole that is larger than the pin, there is a single point contact and that will cause more rapid enlargement. Ideally there should be a size for size fit, but some clearance is necessary due to location tolerances.
