My 6 year old 2000 slowly started to get harder and harder to start. I took good care of it using only good fuel with stabilizer.
On my second carb cleaning I carefully looked at the main jet and the diffuser under it and noticed no clogging but what appeared to be some lacquer buildup. I took a few strands of copper wire and twisted them together to make rasp of sorts, and carefully ran it through the main jet and diffuser holes. Wow, what a difference...finally back to single pull starts.
I'm guessing over the years this buildup occurred even though I always used good fuel and occasionally carb cleaner.
