I too am interested in the Full Discharge explanation
The myth with Ni_Cads was that you had to do that or they would develop memory (NO. they don't. at least not in human use They do in orbital satellites but that's about the only place).
WHen you look up Gauge. this is for guns not wire but the concept is the same
You case a bunch of balls the same diamater as the barrell of the gun
Then you dropped them one at a time on a scale counting
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 and the scale tripped over the mark. That's a 10 Ga Gun.
THis applies to all shotgund dave the .410.. that is a caliber (Size in inches o.410)
Same with wire. basically if you measure off say 12 feet of 12 ga and 10 feet of 10 ga.> Same weight.
there is specific weight and you cut that much wire and measure it's length to find the gauge.
That said I think wires are shrinking.
