I suspect you might get to the thermostat through the roof vent with out pulling the refer. If it were in the slide the upper cover is ideal for accessing this gizmo.
We replaced our thermostat button with an attic fan thermostat from Lowe's It is adjustable and appears to be more consistent in its function. Our unit is in a slide & needs all the help we can provide it.
This is a LOT more work and depending on how the refer lines up with the roof top hole is VERY difficult to access that tstst. I make my living working on RV's and I always pull the refer. Better than trying to access from the top. Also, IF you find that the tstat is OK and the fans are bad, now you have a hole in the roof that must have the cover reinstalled and screwed down and sealed. NEVER cut the mesh screen. Doug
