I have a "half height" type Dometic fridge, not sure the exact model - can dig it up if need be.I'm wondering where a "safe" area is to drill a small hole to bring in power for a fan and some led lights. A picture is worth 1000 words if you've done this already!adding the fan to improve cooling and maybe help with frost build up.adding the leds, well, because I'm an addict for leds and I have a freebie 10 foot 12v cool-white strip laying around. I don't think I'll worry about a switch... maybe a PIR motion detector if I'm feeling ambitious, I have a few micro ones laying around.

Instead of drilling a new hole..........see if there already a wire going to a light fixture or the thermistor wire......I too ran a new wire inside and just used the existing grommet and existing hole......

I ran a 12volt wire for a cooling fan from the outside through the drain tube...didn't have to drill anything.

Pull out the grommet for the thermistor and there is room to add more wire in the same hole. I have done this to several and never had a need to drill. There is a little room in the drain tube hole but it is pretty tight.

I ran my wire out through the drain tube also.Bill

Run the wire on the out side of the refrig. and go in from the side or front nothing but installation there.

Have you tried contacting the refrigerator manufacturer for schematics or their recommendation?

This is what I did...but I have an inspection camera (very handy tool) (you can rent one at Home Depot cheap) that I snaked up behind the frig and the outside wall so that I could see what was what back there.

Be very careful. If you drill into the coils your frig is toast. SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY use a very small bit first then stick a thin wire into the hole and you can sort of feel what is back there and if you have good clearance to proceed.

Since my fridge has a light, I picked up the power from there for the interior fan unit (ebay).

Thanks for the tips. No drain on my unit, it just fills with water when it defrosts. I'll have a look at the thermistor hole.
