3. Hard to say. I did my big 5er slide last summer. The new seal seemed to be a lot stiffer rubber than the old worn out seal. I can tell the slider motor is working harder to move the slide, and it's real noisy.
It took me awhile to get things to fit right - I wouldn't say this is the easiest DIY I've ever done. I had to spot-trim it in places where it was binding. Some of my trimmings are obvious to the eye - kinda ragged, and in many places water is not being wiped off because the stiffness forced me to have the blade tip just touching the slide surface. And that's tricky.
