Which 1156 LED Bulb are you using

I'm looking at changing mine over to LED Bulbs and was just wondering how many SMD(LED) per bulb are you using to get same light (lumens) output as the Incandescent. I tried and 80 I had kicking around and it seemed brighter so I'm thinking 40-60 range. The 80 SMD did seem fairly hot. Going to to a amperage read on it to see what it draws compared to the Incandescent one. Seems like you can get some bulk buys on ebay for a reasonable price

Good thread by Camperpaul - bookmarked.

48-plate with 1210 LEDs is probably the closest match in brightness. I've been trying to figure out why there is so much difference in lumen ratings for same size panels. Must be the difference between 1210 and 5050 diodes - thanks, Tenbear.

Do you really believe that white surface reflects all the light, like a mirror? We would have all been using painted walls instead of mirrors then. If you go for a "bullet" shape, then at least get 1.5 more lumen rating, compared to 18 watt incandescent - to compensate for the losses of upward light. 18W bulb has 264 lumens, so with "bullet" LED you need rating around 400 lumens.
  • Th led count is only half the story. There are 2 LED types commonly in use in LED lights used in RVs. The 1210/3528 and the 5050. The 5050 is actually 3 LEDs in the same package and is about 2x as bright as the 1210.

I used the 36-1210 lights to replace the 1141 incandescents. The 18-5050 is about the same brightness IMHO. Probably the 48-1210 and the 24-5050 would be roughly equivalent to the 1156.

Warm white is the closest match to the incandescent color.

By the way, I roughened the fixture surface by gently sanding it with fine sandpaper to make the tape on the panels stick to the fixture.

thanks for the links. I am going to go with the bulb style not the pad. Looks like 36 SMD is sufficient. Any particular reason to go to the pad style? Directed down but these fixture were designed to reflect light from the back side as well.

Not pleased with pad style. Soon as bulb gets warm, the double sided tape lets go. I replaced the tape with 3M industrial tape. It doesn't hold either.

Replaced the pads with bulb type.
  • i use a 15 LED 5050smd warm white. it puts out tons of light.... the 5050 is a bright LED it takes fewer of them to do the same job as the other ones...

  • I replaced all my 1156 bulbs with the ones in the link below. I have been very happy with the them. I did have to make my own adapters using the 1156 bulb bases, but it was not hard and did not take long once I got the methode down. Delivery was about 14 business days.
