Which is better - (3) 12v batteries vs (2) 6v batteries

I am looking to replace an old coach battery with AGM batteries for boondocking usage. I have space for (3) 12 volt group 24s without having to do any modifications, but could also just use 2 of the b...

but that pair of L-16's are like 4 T-125's, should drive an inverter pretty well down to 50% SOC or so.
