Here is my answer to the original question.
If you plan to boondock with a small inverter (300 watts) then use what ever voltage allows the greatest number of amp-hours of battery bank to fit the existing storage space without overloading the weight rating of the compartment.
If you plan to use a large inverter (1500 to 3000 watts) and want to push it hard, then use three 12 volt AGM batteries.
