  • Can your rig and tow vehicle handle that kind of tongue weight? Better to go with a straight series setup rather than series/parallel. I'd do the L16 batteries. Trojan has five or six models of their L16 batteries. I use the L16RE-A batteries in my 48v off grid setup and so far they are flawless.

If I am installing them, #2 would be my preferred option. Half again heavier is, well, half again heavier, and GC2's are weighty enough, thank you very much.

If someone else is toting them around, then it's much more of an open question.

123 vs 62 is twice, not half again. However that is a good point, unless you can get #1 Son on the job :)

  • it is hard to compare with $/AH with all the different prices everywhere. Then in the US, you can look at Sam's 6s vs T-105s so there is no comparison at all--it is obvious where the better deal is there just comparing against four 6s. :(

I am looking more at any quality comparisons. There might also be other "issues" such as avoiding series/parallel hook-ups if that matters ????

Edit: should say also that this would be for more shallow cycles on solar in summer, but also several 50-90s in winter-- and sometimes in summer too when solar is no good
  • You would be paying just a small bit more for the T-105's/AH compared to the Surette. Using Murphy's law, you would have less cells with the Surette so probability of a lost cell would decrease. The really tough thing, for me, is having one of those Surrete's fail and need a replacement.

The cheapest roue to Trojans is to get a quote from a golf cart supplier. They order many batteries and their cost is lower than on the street. You would need to do a battery run across the border to make it a real winner. Please, bring us your lead, lol. :B

Oh wait. I just noticed this is about batteries. Looks like good links to follow.

Mex, ISTR recently, you said Surrette wasn't really a Rolls or some such due to re-branding issues? What was that all about? Are these particular Surettes any good or not?

Or was that where their Wets are OK but their AGMs are not or was that the other way around, or not at all? (Hard to keep track with all this? :( )

(Looking ahead to when I will have to replace my four 6s.)

EDIT-- I see the Trojan L-16P is 420AH so about the same size bank for two of those.

    BTW that $319 US is 319 x 100/75 = $425 Can while the Surrette is $ 369 Can.

EDIT--Mex it is not the "Treasury" (US idea) that determines the value of the $Can wrt $US. It is those arm-wavy guys in the "pit" of the commodities exchange or one those places where, " Logic has nothing to do with it" , that seem to think we are an oil-economy like Saudi-Arabia or someplace. Totally weird, but it is what it is.
  • They are both top-notch. 4 Trojans give you some redundancy in case of failure (and are a lot easier to muscle into place).
