You're exactly right, years ago my brother worked for a Good Year dealer, the rep from Monroe (shock absorbers) told him how Monroe "makes" shocks for Sears, but they (Sears) spec their shocks to much lesser quality than bonafide Monroes to keep the price point down. It works that way in quite a few areas, it's commonly known as private labeling. :B
I firmly believe you get what you pay for. Just my two cents.
