Same EXACT fittings are available in ABS or PVC. PVC is a superior product for sound reduction along with it's pipes are "STRAIGHT" as in not curved like ABS tends to be.
The terminology "DWV" means "drain, waste and vent". The drain/waste fittings have more of a sweep to them and the vents are more of a 90. You can use the drain fittings for vent piping and drain piping BUT you can't use the vent fittings for the drain piping.
