I know an electrican that removes them as soon as the house passes final inspection.I really think there is much ado about nothing. In a modern home there are plenty of outlets and no need for an extension cord. That is what they (code writers) thought of originly. Where cords were getting overloaded and melting. Yeah a nail or staple might get thru a wire but that doesn't happen that often. I remebember the orignal GFCIs outlets. They were NO good. And no one wanted to spend the money for the breakers. I like them, I think they have saved a LOT of lives. I don't see that with AFCI
