Fact is, a decent 1500 watt inverter will power a good size microwave off 2 6 volt batteries, and thru 10 ft of 2 ga cable just fine. At least mine did for many years.
Well, the new inverter could have a higher cutoff voltage for the low voltage alarm.
His batteries could have been much further discharged than previous attempts with the 750W unit.
the cables with the new inverter could be inadequate for either case.
