OK end of play time for me...
Cars run around in Phoenix on the 4th of July lights and A/C on in 120F temps. Alternators are being exposed to engine radiated temps of 240F. Hoods are closed and the roads aren't clogged with abandoned autos cause the alternator played Mt Vesuvius.
Parked at a campsite with the hood opened ya think maybe the alternator is going to run just a tad cooler?
El Biggee with alternators and accessories is voltage drop between the alternator and batteries. No guesswork - either the voltage at the inverter terminals is within specs or it isn't. If voltage checks low measured at the ALTERNATOR terminal, it's End Game. The inverter Harbor Fright vends is bottom-of-the-barrel grade.
Do these checks and post results.
When chassis battery was at 12.19, inverter terminals 12" away were at 12.10. Yep, a big drop!
