Wifi backup camera using your smart phone

Has anyone used or know of a backup camera that connects by wifi to a person's smart phone?
I'd like a camera on the back of the truck and another on the back of the trailer but don't want to deal with a screen hanging off my dash got enough stuff there already), I see these ones using your smart phone but how good are they?

  • I purchased a "wifi" enabled camera and my smart phone connected to it perfectly, obviously I just had to turn on wifi on the smartphone.

There are plenty of new cams out now with wifi capabilities, even the new Go Pro cam has it.

I haven't really used it a "live" situation I just played around with it at the camper storage facility and it worked OK.

  • the avg smart phone can do TWO wifi things
be a wifi access point router, or Connect to an access point router
one or the other but NOT both at the same time
the avg wifi camera is design to connect to an access point/router so it can be networked and accessed by computers on that network, including PCs tablets phone, internet etc..

im not aware of a wifi camera that will adhoc connect directly to the phone as a display device for the camera, with out a router/access point in between

not saying it can't exist, but i'm not familiar with any
its the way the security data handling protocols are set up
the camera is assign an IP address on the router, the user has to have PW access to the network

what you are looking for is a BlueTooth camera
turn on camera, turn on bluetooth on phone, scan for devices, say yes to pairing
    and your connected

i do not know if such a blue tooth camera exists, but its possible
