Op back, thanks for all the responses.
Can someone explain how to use a voltmeter to measure the voltage drop across a connection. I thought I was sharp when it came to using a meter but I guess I'm missing how to do such a test.
When I tried the "finger" test I couldn't sense any temp differences when touching all the connection points and the cables themselves, That's why I thought the digital temp sensor could be of value.
The cables from the battery to the inverter are 2 gauge by the way, they sure seem thick to me.
